Monastery Route Northern Black Forest
The 100 km Monastery route Northern Black Forest connects three cultural jewels since 1999:
- the Benedictine abbeys Alpirsbach in the Upper Kinzig Valley
- Hirsau near Calw with the Cistercian Monastery
- and the World cultural heritage Maulbronn in Northern Black Forest
The "Monastery route Northern Black Forest" and gives an eventful insight into the world of major monasteries in the fabulous Black Forest landscape: one of the greatest Romanesque monastery complexes was built in Alpirsbach in 1905. The Hirsau Monastery complex used to be the center of the Benedictine reform movement in the 11th century. The Maulbronn Cistercian Monastery was declared UNESCO World cultural heritage because of its unique state of preservation.
