Have a Look in the Monks Cooking Pots - how they ate and drank
St. Benedict established in his rules that the monks should fast as well as eat and drink only determined quantities. However, historical reports deriving from famous monastery kitchens tell another story. What did people eat and drink in medieval times? What was cultivated, which food products were available? How was food conserved? We will find out during the guided tour. Historical images will help us to imagine how stove, kitchen, and cellar looked like in medieval times.
We will admire cooking devices and dishes that were used in the Alpirsbach monastery during the 15th and 16th century.
And finally, we will try food and drinks made according to medieval recipes. Thus, we will be able to imagine medieval tastes and flavors.
